Preparation Steps
Combine salt, black pepper, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and garlic powder in a small bowl to create a dry rub.
Rub the pork shoulder evenly with the dry rub on all sides.
Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker and pour root beer over the meat.
Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Remove pork from slow cooker, shred with two forks, and mix with juices before serving.
