Cook the Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Break it into small pieces as it cooks.
Remove sausage from skillet and drain excess fat. Add chopped red onion to the skillet and sauté for 2 minutes until softened.
Mix the cooked sausage back with the onions and sliced pepperoncini in a bowl.
Slice slider buns in half horizontally and place the bottom halves on a baking sheet. Evenly distribute the sausage mixture over the buns.
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sausage mixture, then drizzle with Italian dressing.
Place the top halves of the buns on sliders and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and buns are slightly toasted.
Garnish with chopped fresh basil before serving.
