Instructions
Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan, or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup sugar, salt, baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutayltmeg if using.
Add Wet Ingredients:
In another bowl, beat the eggs, oil, and vanilla together.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Fold in the chopped apples and nuts, if using. The batter will be thick.
Prepare the Topping:
In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar topping evenly over the batter.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Cool and Serve:
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve as is or with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
