Instructions
Preparation Steps
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
In a medium bowl, combine strawberries and 1/2 cup sugar. Set aside to macerate.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup sugar.
Gradually stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract to form a soft dough.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead gently and shape into an 8-inch round. Place onto a baking sheet.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
To serve, split shortcake in half. Layer with strawberries and whipped cream.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use homemade whipped cream.
