Preparation Steps
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in vanilla extract.
Alternately add flour and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow cake to cool completely before frosting and dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
For best results, chill the cake for 30 minutes before serving. This keeps the frosting firm and enhances the snowball effect.
