Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
Mix in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For an extra touch, serve with fresh berries or a dusting of powdered sugar.
