Instructions
Preparation Steps
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30 minutes until golden brown and hollow sound when tapped.
Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For a crustier bread, place a pan of water in the oven while baking to create steam.
